Whereas only approximately 100 people each year die in accidents at work, more than 10,000 die from work related lung diseases and cancers. Much of these deaths could be avoided with better management of dust on construction sites and factories. In particular silica dust on construction sites is a significant risk. This course is aimed at raising awareness of hazardous dust at work and highlighting the approved methods of controlling the dust and protecting the health of those who may be exposed to dust at work.
This is a half day training course delivered in a classroom environment or via Video-conferencing.
COURSE CONTENT
The course is a practical and comprehensive development of the dangers from hazardous dust and the best methods of controlling it. With whiteboard animations, exercises, powerpoint, videos and the tutors own experiences there is always a lively interchange throughout the courses.
What dusts and work based activities create a hazard.
The effects of silica and other dusts on health and the issues that raises, as well as a review of practical ways to protect yourself and others.
A review of how to use different risk assessment tools and control methods to reduce or prevent exposure to hazardous dust.
The use of Respiratory Protective Equipment, including its limitations and the need for fit testing.
Regulation and guidance relating to hazardous dust including COSHH and your responsibilities in this regard.
Emergency procedures in event of an uncontrolled release of hazardous dust
Courses are for 15 people and can be delivered either at one of our facilities or on your own site where adequate facilities are available.
